Japanese title: トモダチゲーム
English title: Friends Game
No. of Episodes: 12
Season: Spring 2022
My personal score: 7/10
Quick answer: It's likely for its intended audience only.
Well, this anime will surely be one of the harder ones to fully articulate without spoiling too much. If I
were to put it in a nutshell, it would be this is similar to Death Note, but more modern and less polished.
The plot uses a heavy theme of psychological game with huge amounts of money at stake, so it's definitely
not for the younger audience, or even audience with weaker hearts perhaps.
The series of events and developments are more on the good side, though. The main character is portrayed as
an overpowered guy, or more like overbrained, who somehow keeps coming up with winning strategies that the
other characters involved can't help but keep falling to.
While there are definitely a lot of unexplained aspects, the overall storyline felt good enough to me. The
ending was quite weird, however.
The art style is very typical of a dark and psychological anime. It's nothing unique and nothing to brag
about. Although the quality is consistent.
One interesting point I noticed is the choice of voice actors/actresses of the supporting characters seem to
be the more popular ones compared to the main characters. Maybe that's a way to cut the budget but still
include some popular voice actors/actresses, I don't know.
Tomodachi Game is definitely an anime for specific audience. I would say it's good, yes, but it's surely not
everyone's cup of tea.
